High-tone External Muscle Stimulation in Treating Diabetic Polyneuropathy

Abstract

Polyneuropathy is a term that indicates a disease of the peripheral nerves. Diabetic Polyneuropathy is a common complication of type 2 diabetes and other causes of neuropathic pain. Symptoms are expressed by type “gloves and socks” and are often worse at night; they are perceived as a burning sensation of being stung by pins and needles or even as electric shocks. In the paper we summarise the performed foreign studies on the impact of professional high-tone therapy (HtEMS) in the treatment of polyneuropathy. The High-tone External Muscle Stimulation (HtEMS) is a new approach to the treatment of polyneuropathy, the primary goal of which is the effect on cellular metabolism and the increase in cellular energy. High-tone External Muscle Stimulation (HtEMS) is a method that is recommended abroad as a non-invasive, non-pharmacological possibility for pain relief in patients with type 2 diabetes.
