Over the past three decades, hospitals in Slovenia have struggled to provide more efficient, safe, timely, equitable and patient-centred health care to achieve good treatment outcomes. Therefore, quality assurance in health care is crucial. It is important to know the self-assessment of staff because it can lead to changes in providing nursing care. The aim of this study is to determine how the nursing staff of Brežice General Hospital self-assess the influence of education and length of employment on quality assurance in nursing. The research is based on a descriptive quantitative working method using a survey technique. The results show that the nurses of the Brežice General Hospital, regardless of their level of education, believe that education influences the quality of care. The self-assessment of the influence of seniority on the quality of care shows that the nurses not only contradict the claim that nurses with longer seniority care for the patient better, but also the opposite claim that nurses with shorter seniority care for the patient less well.
