Professional Workers’ Views on Recognisable Effects of Hippotherapy
Keywords:

Lifelong learning of persons with severe intellectual and motor disabilities involve many rehabilitation programmes. They also incorporate diverse neurotherapeutical methods and procedures. This research deals with the views of various professional workers on hippotherapy and its impact on a child’s cognitive and motor development components. A questionnaire was completed by 21 therapists and teachers from the same institution at the beginning of the three-month hippotherapy, and again at its end. The t-test confirmed the differences between the professional workers’ views on the recognition of the
hippotherapy effects on the integral development of students. All professional workers expressed affirmative and favourable views on the effects of hippotherapy already at the beginning. At the end, the special and rehabilitation teachers' positive opinion of the effects on cognitive and motor aspects of development grew significantly (p = 0.003), but the consideration of the therapists (p = 0.331) remained more or less the same as at the beginning. We assume that the teachers in daily social and curricular contacts with the students better recognised these effects directly after the completed hippotherapy.
