Functioning of a Family with the Presence of a Family Member Psychopathology
a Case Study

The paper presents the results of a study dealing with the issue of family functioning and reflection of spirituality as maintaining or protective factor in the family, which consists of the 41-year old father, diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, the 32-year-old mother, the 8-year-old daughter and the 3.6-year-old son. The study results indicate that the family functioning is imbalanced; the roles, communication and the rules are unclear, emotional connection and responsiveness are lowered. Due to the occurrence of the disorder, the family dynamics is specific and at the same time works as a maintaining factor of the disorder. Furthermore, the results suggest that the intrinsic spiritual dimensions relating to hope, meaning, and target orientation, work as a protective factor, while the extrinsic spiritual dimensions relating to the set
of beliefs, rigid rules, norms, and demands, work as a maintaining factor of the disorder.
