Abstract

Low back pain is a common condition that limits runners' ability to run. Physiotherapy based on conservative treatment helps to eliminate the problem in the short and long term. The aim of article was to investigate the causes of low back pain in runners and to explore effective physiotherapy procedures. We used a review of peer-reviewed and scientific literature published in the Pedro, COBISS, ProQuest and Pubmed databases. We limited the hits by the following inclusion criteria: relevant articles, published in full text over a period of 10 years in English and Slovenian. Out of 978 hits, we used 15 articles for the final analysis. We created 47 codes, which we divided into 3 content categories. Physiotherapy rehabilitation includes a combination of various exercises (trunk activation, stretching, balance, coordination and strength), manual therapy (mobilisation and soft tissue techniques) and instrumental therapy (ultrasound, thermal therapy and electrotherapy), which are the most effective conservative treatments for reducing low back pain.
