Abstract

This paper presents a view on current, changed values of the Slovene post-modern society and their consequences that affect the values of nursing care and nurses as professionals, but also ad persona. The author derives from the belief that the internal, cultural values are the foundation that determines events in the subsystem of nursing care and always oscillates between two poles: the ideal type-value system of nursing care, which includes sensual and transcendental component values, and the »supersystem« that is dictates or even required by current social and economic changes. The gap between the desired and the potential causes numerous difficulties to employees in health care, such as technical, professional, organisational, personal and financial problems. This paper highlights the need to identify the cause-and-effect relationship of changed values in the health care situation in the Slovene postmodern society. Every social subsystem, meaning nursing care as well, which tends to reflect what is happening in reality, should take into account the fact the constant transformation of values taking place in the interaction among many factors at various levels.
