Abstract

Education has taken on a new meaning in the light of social changes. Since the beginning of the 1990s, it has been fundamental for the development of an information society. By changing paradigms, attention has been given to an individual’s responsibility for personal and professional development as well as obtaining the qualifications necessary for facing the prevailing circumstances in the society. At the same time, the education of nurses has been adapted and its importance in the personal and professional life is increasing. It is important that nurses gain knowledge, skills, habits, meaning competences, that enable a personal and professional development. We should be aware that only a developed education system can educate nurses to gain competences desired in the labour market and opens the door to the world, improves the structure of qualifications and education of employees in health care, supports career development and ensure vertical mobility, affects the distribution of innovative and top-quality knowledge in the field of nursing care and influences the quality of life of nurses and patients as well as the democratisation of the profession and society.
