Keywords:

In the nursing sector, those working in emergency medical care are among the people most exposed to the outbreak of occupational burnout. The aim of this paper is to present the occurrence of psychosomatic symptoms of occupational burnout in emergency medical care in nursing care providers and to determine how these symptoms are related to the individual dimensions of burnout. A descriptive method was used to survey health care providers in emergency care at the Ljubljana Rescue Station. The results show that the most common psychosomatic symptom of occupational burnout is the occurrence of back pain. The respondents showed relatively low levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation and high levels of personal fulfillment. There is a strong positive correlation between psychosomatic symptoms of occupational burnout and emotional exhaustion. Psychosomatic symptoms of occupational burnout with depersonalisation are strongly positively associated with irritability, chronic fatigue, depression and the feeling of helplessness. The third dimentium, personal fulfilment, is not associated with psychosomatic symptoms. Employees should be given an insight into the degree of burnout, in order to provide them with better working conditions and psychological support.
