Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in Slovenia. Surgical treatment often results in an intestinal stoma. Caring for patients with incurable disease and an intestinal stoma requires interprofessional collaboration. The aim of the study is to present the importance of interprofessional collaboration in the palliative care process for patients with an intestinal stoma. The study adopted a qualitative approach, utilizing the text analysis method and the unstructured interview technique. We used a non- andomised purposive sampling and included a surgeon, a registered nurse, an enterostomal therapist, a psychologist, a healthcare coordinator, and a community nurse. The participants of the study emphasised the importance of mental and physical preparation of the patient for surgery in the context of palliative care for individuals with an intestinal stoma. They also emphasised the education on intestinal stoma management provided by the enterostomal therapist. The participants highlighted both the benefits and limitations of interprofessional collaboration. The most significant benefit is the provision of high-quality and safe patient care, while the primary limitation is the lack of staff.
