Caring for Health, Rest and Regular Physical Activity – Key Factors of the Development of Young Musicians
Keywords:
classical music, ethics, musicians’ health, didactics of teaching a musical instrumentAbstract
The field of art is one of the main elements dealing with freedom of human expression, which strengthens personal and collective identity as well as values in society, and it is recognised by the fundamental international children’s right regulations. The empirical qualitative study was designed to get an insight into key factors influencing the elite achievements in classical music during childhood through personal life experiences of professional classical musicians. 42 classical musicians participated in semi-structured interviews during the period 2010-2015. Qualitative content analysis showed the four key factors of elite achievements development among the young musicians: 1) the role of experts who recognise the talent, 2) strict lifestyle regime, 3) didactics of teaching a musical instrument, and 4) rest and care for one’s health. In the future, special attention should be focused on the education of young classical musicians regarding care for their own physical and mental health, as well as healthy lifestyle.
