Professional management of physical activity in older adults can lead to successful reduction of overweight. The purpose of this paper is to present the connection between physical activity as part of a physiotherapy treatment for older adults and overweight. A descriptive method based on a review of the scientific literature in the PubMed and PEDro databases was used. Inclusion criteria for the selection of articles were: meta-analyses, randomized clinical trials, and studies examining the effects of physical activity in older adults on reducing overweight. The results of the research highlight the importance of appropriate physical activity and its affirmative effects on the improvement of the cardiovascular, metabolic, immune and locomotor systems. The presentation of the framework of physiotherapeutic exercise of overweight older adults can
contribute to prevention, to raising awareness among
older adults, and to further studying the effects of reducing
overweight on the entire healthcare system, which affects the more integrated approach to the quality treatment of older adults.
