The Impact of Stress on Older Employees and their Work Engagement
Keywords:

The main objective of the paper is to determine the impact of stress at the workplace on work engagement of older employees in Slovenia. We conducted a survey among 1086 older employees. The research is based on the implementation of a factor analysis by which we wanted to reduce the large number of variables to a smaller number of factors with which we performed a simple linear regression. Based on the results, we confirmed the hypothesis that stress in the workplace has a statistically significant negative impact on work engagement of older employees in Slovenia. Stress is a possible trigger of many illnesses, resulting in long-term sick leave, unengaged employees and premature retirement of employees. Well-being in the workplace of age diverse employees is a key for long-term effectiveness in health organisations. Employers should apply appropriate measures to reduce stress as well as contribute to employees’ well-being and better workplace performance.
