How Safe Is Telemedicine for Patient Treatment

Telemedicine is the exchange of health information using electronic communication between two users with the goal of improving a patient's clinical health status. It is widely used in many healthcare settings. The aim of this study was to review the foreign scientific literature and determine whether the use of telemedicine in the medical treatment of patients is safe enough. We searched the literature in the Medline PubMed, BioMed Central, ProQuest, COBISS, Google Scholar databases using the search terms: telemedicine, safety, patient, treatment. Based on the inclusion criteria, we identified 1064 hits and included 26 articles in the final analysis. The results show that the use of telemedicine is safe and that both patients and healthcare professionals are satisfied with its use.
