In recent years, the structure of patients entering healthcare has changed and with it so has the need for healthcare providers’ knowledge, skills and competences to communicate with different patients. The aim of the study was to identify the experiences, needs and barriers of healthcare providers in dealing with patients they perceive as difficult. We set ourselves seven objectives from which we derived the research questions. The study is based on a qualitative research approach. with the interview technique. The random sample comprised ten healthcare providers, seven female and three male, aged between 26 and 58 years, and with between 5 and 38 years of professional experience in healthcare. The people in the sample see as particularly challenging, in recent years, patients who enter medical treatment with higher expectations, patients who do not understand or ignore instructions, suspicious patients, patients with certain diagnoses and aggressive patients, emphasising the importance of skills of healthcare providers who can communicate appropriately with such patients and keep calm even in unpredictable and stressful situations.
