Nursing Care Students‘ Knowledge about over-the-Counter Medicines

Abstract

People often use over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to facilitate their health problems. The purpose of the cross-sectional study was to determine the frequency of taking OTC medicines, side effects and received information for administering them among
students of nursing care and their relationship to socio-demographic data. We found out that in the last six months, women participants have received information for taking OTC medicines from friends or family members (p<0,0005), nursing students, taking two different OTC medicines have received information from the doctor (p = 0,036), and those taking three different OTC medicines (p =0,004) have received information on the Internet. Side effects of the OTC medicines have been experienced by 23.2% of the participants, 10.8% of thoseneeded medical attention. Based on the results obtained, a need to improve the knowledge of nursing care students on the use of the OTC.
